Mitchell throws 5 scoreless innings as baseball rebounds with 11-2 win over Florida A&M

Auburn rebounded strong on Wednesday night with an 11-2 win against Florida A&M to rebound after going 1-2 against Sacramento State over the weekend.

Despite the Rattlers playing seven different pitchers, the Tigers were able to stay hot throughout the game and leave Plainsman Park with a win.

Auburn pitcher Andrew Mitchell was able to pitch five scoreless innings and only give up two hits. The Tigers scored for runs in the third inning and one in both the first and the fourth innings.

Florida A&M finally got on the board in the seventh inning, making the score 6-2. Auburn held the Rattlers scoreless in the top of the eighth before bringing in a season-high five runs. The rally was sparked by Jordan Ebert after he hit a three-run home run to clear the bases and increase the score to 9-2.

Niko Buentello continued on his dominant streak at the plate as he went 3-4 with four RBIs to bring his total RBIs on the season up to 14.

“It's exciting," Buentello said. "It's weird as a hitter. It can change between at bats. Right now I'm just trying to keep it simple and enjoy it. Enjoy it while I am seeing the ball well.”

This was Mitchell’s first win of the season. In the series against Sacramento State, Auburn’s lack of pitching depth proved to be a problem, but they seemed to have found a temporary solution moving into the weekend.

“We need that," said Auburn coach Butch Thompson. "We tried to make a few adjustments. Some of their best swings were outs. The balls that were hits for them, we really took the sting out of the swing tonight, and I'm pleased about that.”

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday against Southern University in Plainsman Park at 3 p.m.
