Third-ranked Auburn might have lost its first game of the season in Clearwater, Florida, on Saturday, Feb. 20, but that did little to ruin the Tigers' appetite for destruction. After bouncing back for an 18-0 win over DePaul later Saturday, Auburn once again flexed its muscles in an 18-1 win over Fordham on Sunday, Feb. 21.
Auburn (10-1) earned 23 hits in the game, including home runs by sophomore Whitney Jordan and freshman Casey McCrackin. Both home runs pushed three runs across.
Redshirt sophomore Madi Gipson, who had two home runs in Saturday's action, didn't hit a ball out of the park Sunday, but she still made a huge impact for Auburn, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Junior Kasey Cooper went 3-for-3 as well, earning three RBIs and scoring twice. In all, four Auburn players had multiple RBIs.
Auburn also got it done with pitching, as freshman Makayla Martin earned her third victory of the season in three starts. She struck out two and allowed just one earned run and one walk in three innings of play. She was relieved in the fourth inning by sophomore Kaylee Carlson, who retired all six batters she faced, including three strikeouts.
Of Auburn's 10 wins this season, six have come by the run rule.
