For the last week the Auburn swimming and diving team has been in Columbia Missouri competing in the Swimming and Diving SEC championships. Entering the fourth night out of the five, the Tigers were trailing the first-place florida by 54 points.
The Tigers required a near perfect night to make this competition interesting for the final night, which they were able to do. Going into the fifth and final night the gap is a very manageable 30 points. The Tigers will have 5 events tomorrow to make up the deficit.
Tonight was also a record breaking night for many Tigers. Sophomore Hugo Morris began the evening by winning the 200 butterfly, making him the first Tiger to do so in over a decade. He finished in a school and SEC record 1:40.59. Than the junior work horse of the Auburn Tigers won the 100 breaststroke making him the 13th all time in Auburn history to do so. He finished with a time of 51.94. Duderstadt then continued on to compete in the 400 medley relay and finish second.
On the women’s side Annie Lazor tied for third in the 100 breaststroke posting a personal best time of 59.68.
The SEC championships conclude on Saturday and you can watch on SEC Network+ or watch the 1 hour recap on ESPNU airing on March 2 at 3pm CT for the men and 4:30pm for the women.
