Chief operating officer named athletic director at UConn

David Benedict, Auburn's chief operating officer since January 2014, has departed The Plains to become the athletic director at UConn.

“An opportunity as significant as the director of athletics at UConn was something David couldn't pass up,” said Auburn Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs in a statement. “David has a breadth of experience and a track record of success that will serve him well in his new position. I thank David for all he has done for Auburn Athletics and wish him, his wife Lisa, and their two sons all the best with their exciting move to Connecticut.”

Benedict directed all day-to-day athletic operations and also coordinated the search that led to Bruce Pearl's hire.

Before coming to Auburn, he was an athletic administrator at Minnesota, Virginia Commonwealth, Arizona State and Long Beach State.

Auburn will begin a search for Benedict's replacement immediately, according to the release.

"My family and I feel blessed to have called Auburn home for the past two years," Benedict said. "I feel great about the future of Auburn Athletics and will continue to follow all their successes from Storrs.”
