Auburn only managed a single hit in Starkville, Mississippi, on Sunday, but its strong pitching was enough for a 2-0 victory over Mississippi State to win the series.
The No. 3 Tigers (26-4, 3-3 SEC) clinched their first SEC series win of the season and have won three of their last four SEC games after dropping their first two games against No. 1 Florida.
The only two runs in the game came in the third inning, when an errant throw on a Tiffany Howard hit led to runs by Kasey Cooper and pinch runner Bree Fornis.
Rachael Walters (4-2) earned the win, pitching for 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and allowing two hits. Kaylee Carlson entered the game in the fifth inning and struck out three more Bulldogs while also allowing just two hits.
Mississippi State (19-8, 1-2 SEC) threatened to come back in the sixth, loading the bases with a single and a pair of walks with one out. Carlson was able to get out of the jam, however, as she struck out a Bulldog for the second out before the final out of the inning came on a 1-3 groundout.
Auburn allowed just four hits in its 14th shutout win of the season.
