Softball extends shutout streak in sweep of Tennessee State

With a series against top-ranked defending champion Florida looming, the No. 3 Auburn softball team ensured it would enter the weekend with plenty of momentum and confidence of its own. The Tigers earned two shutouts (7-0 and 8-0) of Tennessee State on Wednesday to improve to 22-1 entering SEC action.

After falling behind 7-0 to Indiana in the fourth inning on March 4, the Tigers ended the game with 8 unanswered runs. They've since increased their scoring run to 59-0 thanks to six consecutive shutout victories.

Auburn hasn't allowed a run in 40 innings.

Kaylee Carlson (5-0) started the first game of the night, allowing just three hits and striking out seven in a complete game.

Auburn built a 3-0 lead after four innings and pulled away in the final two innings thanks to a two-run homer by Emily Carosone and a solo homer by Whitney Jordan. Jordan's homer was the final run scored in the Tigers' 7-0 win.

In the second game, Kasey Cooper started and ended the scoring for the Tigers in an 8-0 run-rule win. Her first-inning single gave Auburn its first run and her two-RBI single in the fifth ended the game.

Tiffany Howard and Victoria Draper also had big nights, as both scored three runs.

Marcy Harper got the start, striking out eight batters in four innings. Lexi Davis finished the game for Harper with a perfect fifth inning to secure yet another shutout.

The Tigers now turn their attention toward the team that eliminated them from the College World Series last season: the 24-0 Gators.
