Fourteen of Auburn’s 21 Athletics teams posted a perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rate score for the 2014-15 scoring period, according to the NCAA APR scores released Wednesday. Seven teams posted the highest multi-year APR scores among their peers in the Southeastern Conference.
For the second year in a row, Bruce Pearl's men's basketball team posted a perfect 1000, and Gus Malzahn's football program scored the second-highest in the SEC with a 982 behind only Vanderbilt, the highest score in the state of Alabama over the past 10 years.
"Academic excellence and athletic success are the foundational pillars upon which we will establish Auburn University as the best school for the best athletes,” Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs said. "To know we are performing academically at the highest level in program history is a mark of distinction and testament to the hard work of our student-athletes on and off the field of play."
Every one of the 21 varsity sports Auburn fields were safely within the APR guidelines, and 86 percent scored a 980 or better.
Last week, the NCAA recognized the men's and women's cross country, women's basketball, women's golf, gymnastics and women's tennis teams for scoring 1,000 over the past four years. Those six teams, along with men's basketball, men's indoor and outdoor track, softball, soccer, women's swimming and diving, men's golf and volleyball scored a perfect 1,000 in the most recent scoring period.
