Carlson on Lou Groza Award watch list

Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson has once again found himself on the Lou Groza Award watch list, an award presented to the nation's best place-kicker at the end of each season. Carlson was a finalist for the award last year after being named a unanimous first team All-SEC selection and a second team All-American. Carlson kicked four field goals of more than 51 yards, and hit 16 consecutive field goals for the Tigers last season.

The rising junior nailed 23 of his 27 field goal attempts last season, which included 8 of 10 from 40 yards or longer. Carlson also handled kickoffs for Auburn and boomed 49 of 69 kicks through the end zone.

Carlson hit five field goals in the spring's A-Day game, the longest from 55 yards deep.

"He's one of the best kickers in college football and that will be a big weapon for us next year,” said Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn.
