A spirit that is not afraid

the 2018 Writing Across the Curriculum Conference

An annual writing conference will finally place at Auburn University in 2018. The dates are set for June 4 to June 6.

Auburn was selected in May to host the 2018 international Writing Across the Curriculum Conference. The theme for conference is "Connections" and how people are helping students learn to write in different disciplines. The goal is for connections to be made between high school teachers and university professors. Mostly university faculty participate in these conferences, but the board for the conference have intentions to broaden the outreach. "We are really trying to include people who come from a different perspective," said Martha Marshall.

The conference began in 1993 and Auburn has been participating in the conference since 2008. This year 19 faculty members from Auburn went to the conference at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. the Writing Conference is an academic conference where teaching strategies, writing and research are presented. There are typically workshops on the morning of the first day, a keynote address following and sessions in the afternoon with multiple panels going on simultaneously. The second day is the same and the conference is closed out on the third day with a closing lunch speaker. The program is built around proposals being made and reviewed by the board.

Most of the conference will be at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center and there are hopes that the new classrooms in front of the library can be utilized and the reception can take place at the museum. Key note speakers haven't been chosen and locations are not set in stone because it is still the early stages. "We have a lot of planning to do and details to work out but we are very excited to be chosen," Marshall said.

There will be a registration fee for this event. For more information on the IWAC visit http://wp.auburn.edu/iwac2018/registration.
