Auburn senior infielder arrested Thursday

Auburn senior utility infielder Kyler Deese was arrested Thursday night on a charge for public intoxication.

Deese was arrested at 11:23 p.m. on South Gay Street, according to the Auburn Police Department arrest report. His court date is set for April 13. 

Public intoxication is classified as a violation in Alabama and carries a maximum jail sentence of 30 days and a fine of no more than $200. According to the report, Deese has a prior arrest on his record.

"Coach (Butch) Thompson is aware of the situation and is continuing to gather facts at this time," a team spokesman told AL.com.

Deese appeared in 44 games for Auburn last season, making 40 starts. The Auburn native made 26 starts at third base, 13 at catcher and one at first base. He hit .221 on the season with four doubles and 20 RBI. In 2015, he hit .254 with 10 doubles, 2 homeruns and 27 RBI.
