Senior WR likely out for final game at Auburn

A shoulder injury that forced senior wideout Marcus Davis to sit out his final two regular season games will most likely keep him out of the Sugar Bowl on Monday night.

“Marcus has really battled hard to try to get back. He’s just not able to do what he needs to do to play on a consistent basis,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “I’m not saying we may not try to put him in there in a specialized role.

“Marcus is one of our leaders. He’s been a very solid player for us for four years. He tried his best but it doesn’t look very promising right now.”

Before injuring his shoulder against Georgia on Nov. 12, Davis accounted for 160 yards on 17 receptions on the season. The 5-foot-9 wideout has appeared in 50 games while on the Plains, and has 650 yards on 83 receptions and three touchdowns in his career.

Davis has also returned punts for Auburn this season, and will now be replaced by safety Stephen Roberts in the Sugar Bowl. Roberts has returned five punts already this season, including a 58 yard return against Alabama.

Auburn will face Oklahoma in Sugar Bowl at 7:30 p.m. CT. Action can be seen on ESPN.
