Senior guard Janiah McKay and sophomore forward Unique Thompson were among those honored on the preseason All-SEC second team, the league office announced Tuesday.
McKay led the way for the Tigers last season, leading the team in points per game and assists, while placing second on the team in steals. One of McKay’s strengths is her ability to convert at the free-throw line, connecting on 130 of her 157 attempts.
Thompson made a huge impact in her freshman campaign, tying a school record with seven double-doubles as a freshman. Thompson averaged 11.5 points and a team-high 8.4 rebounds on her way to SEC All-Freshman honors.
Coming out with the preseason teams were the projected standings in the SEC. The Tigers were picked to finish eighth by the league’s coaches.
Auburn’s first game is at 5:30 p.m. CST Tuesday, Nov. 6 against Grambling State.
