Auburn and Akron will play a football game in 2021, the schools announced on Thursday.
The two schools will meet on Sept. 4, 2021, at Jordan-Hare Stadium in the season opener.
"We are very excited to take on one of the iconic football programs in college athletics," said Akron director of athletics Larry Williams.
Before meeting in 2021, Auburn and Akron have only played each other once. In Akron's second year of Division I play in 1988, No. 12 Auburn beat Akron 42-0 at home.
"What a great opportunity for our young men to travel to Auburn," said first-year Akron head coach Tom Arth. "Auburn is one of the premiere teams in the SEC. We look forward to the challenge."
Auburn's non-conference schedule for 2021 has now been filled with the announcement of the game against Akron. The 2021 non-conference schedule includes home games against Akron, Georgia State, Alabama State and an away game against Penn State.
