'A lot to prove': Seth Williams' monster game helps Auburn win big over Mississippi State

"This is what Auburn is about — fast pace and scoring touchdowns. That's what Malzahn likes to do, so that's what we're doing."

Seth Williams (18) scores a touchdown during Auburn vs. Mississippi State, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, in Auburn, Ala.

"Nix to Williams," and "Williams to the end zone" are phrases Auburn fans were well aware of by the end of Auburn's 56-23 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.

After Auburn came up short against Mississippi State in 2018, Seth Williams and the Tigers were looking to make sure they took care of business this time around.

"It was a great win," Williams said. "Home opener for the SEC, it was a good way to finish them boys out. Yeah. We had a lot to prove after last year."

Williams finished the game with career-highs in receiving yards with 161 yards and receptions with eight. The sophomore caught a pair of 30-plus-yard touchdowns from Nix.

After missing the second half of Tulane and all of Kent State with a shoulder injury, Williams came back against Texas A&M last weekend.

The receiver is showing that he can be relied upon when the team needs him. Since his return from the shoulder injury, Williams has 12 catches for 208 yards and three touchdowns in the last two games.

"You never know when it's your time," Williams said. "When it's your time, you've just got to make plays. It was my time tonight, and it's what I did."

In a game where Auburn's offense scored 56 points against an SEC opponent with almost 600 yards of total offense, many might believe that this is the best Auburn's offense can be.

Williams thinks that this is just the return of Auburn's offense.

"Oh, we're back to being an Auburn offense," Williams said. "This is what Auburn is about — fast pace and scoring touchdowns. That's what Malzahn likes to do, so that's what we're doing."
