Auburn cornerback Jaylin Simpson has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Simpson is the first freshman to win the award for Auburn since teammate D.J. Williams won the award in Week 9 of last season against LSU.
In his first career start, Simpson recorded four tackles, a pass breakup and a tackle for loss in the Tigers’ 29-13 victory over No. 23 Kentucky.
His tackle for loss came in the first quarter when the freshman blitzed off the corner and delivered a hard hit on Kentucky running back Christian Rodriguez. The hit electrified the crowd and lost six yards on the play.
