Zakoby McClain and Colby Wooden were awarded on Monday for their performances after a 31-20 win against Ole Miss.
McClain took home the award of SEC Defensive Player of the Week after gathering 14 tackles and two sacks for the defense that held Ole Miss to a season-low three points in the second half. The 20 points scored by the Rebels is the lowest amount since Lane Kiffin took over as head coach.
This was the 12th time in McClain’s career that he has totaled double-digit tackles in a game. A year after leading the SEC in tackles, McClain has registered 67 tackles on the season, which ranks third in the conference.
McClain shared the award with Georgia’s Nolan Smith.
Colby Wooden was awarded as the conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Week. Wooden had five tackles – including four solo – and a quarterback hurry. This marks back-to-back games where Wooden has won this award.
Wooden has been a force for the Auburn defense, accounting for 37 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries and four sacks.
The Tigers will rely again on these two stars in College Station, Texas, when they play the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday.
