As the seasons change, so do the beauty trends. From hairstyles to makeup looks, here are the hottest trends making their way from the fall to this winter season.

From the 80’s mullets to the 90’s iconic blowouts, hairstyles and hair color come and go just like everything else. Style-wise, layers are all the talk lately, giving the hair a voluminous and thick look.

“Haircuts with a bunch of layers and facial framing,” said Trent Harris, stylist at Dimensions Salon.

For hair color, blond seems to stay a constant leading trend. But as the winter comes, the blonde gets warmer, adding hints of golden into the look versus a brighter bleach-blond look. For those looking for something darker, ‘cowgirl copper’ is all the rage.

“We’ve really seen a trend of ‘cowgirl copper’… really rich dark coppery tone,” Harris said.

Cowgirl copper has been trending on social media sites for months now. The color is a rich coppery brown-orange with red undertones.

More and more people are going for artificial hair by adding extensions for extra length and thickness. Extensions allow for the look and feel of real hair without taking the time and effort to grow it out.

“We have a lot of extension clients. Length is still important,” Harris said.

Nails are another beauty staple that go through trends like everything else. From color and shape to natural versus fake, it can change as often as every month. Darker colors for the fall and winter are typically the most popular and this season brown is the color winner.

“I would say brown or taupe,” said Lynn P, nail technician at Noire the Nail Bar.

Shape also plays a big role in nail trends. This year the trend is all almond shape.

Almond-shaped nails are thin on the sides and wider at the base coming up into a pointy tip just like an actual almond as the name insinuates. The almond shape creates the allusion of longer nails, which is relevant because long nails are currently in. But natural nails are taking the place of acrylic nails, so it can be harder to achieve the natural length.

Last but not least is makeup. It seems people are opting for minimal makeup looks and choosing to go natural for a glowy, healthy finish. With winter coming it usually means darker colors, but this winter is different with brighter pops of color being worn.

“It is going more towards a cleaner aesthetic than it has been in years past, so less heavy makeup and more of a natural skin-line finish but pops of fun color like a bright twinkle on the inner corner of the eye or a graphic liner,” said Erin Bradley, sales manager at Ulta Beauty.

With the fresh-face look being popular, people are also steering away from artificial facial enhancements such as eyelash extensions. Lash extensions were a trend from 2018 to 2022, which is where synthetic lashes were placed individually onto the base of the natural eyelashes and attached using a semi-permanent adhesive.

Although eyelash extensions gave the impression of long and thick eyelashes, people were finding them painful at times and difficult to maintain. Some people experienced their natural eyelashes ripping out with the extensions when removed.

“We’re seeing lash extensions ween out of popularity and more so people are getting into lash serums and mascaras again,” Bradley said.

With the shifting away from lash extensions comes the use of lash serums, a more natural way to grow out eyelashes and reverse the damage done by the extensions, by oiling and moisturizing the lash line to promote healthy growth.

Lash serums are applied to the base of the eyelashes daily to nourish and boost the lashes to allow healthy growth. Serums along with a thin layer of mascara are the current eye-makeup look of the season, offering a simple and clean feel to the face.

The ‘clean-girl aesthetic’ is taking the lead in looks right now, according to Seventeen Magazine. The trend amplifies the natural, fresh-faced look and promotes all-around well-being in the beauty industry by advocating for natural looks to be the newest trend.
