Entertainment venues are becoming increasingly popular and popping up around different cities. Opelika, Ala is home to a unique place created for entertainment and recreational fun. The Opelika Rage Room is an entertainment venue for a unique experience where customers can spend time in a reinforced room designed for smashing items.

The rage room allows customers to recreationally break items such as TVs, bottles, vases, printers and more. The purpose of the rage room is to smash and destroy items.

“We are an entertainment venue and I think people are drawn to it because it’s fun, it's different, it's new,” said Alex Miller, owner of the Opelika Rage Room.

In the rage room, there are two different options to choose from. The “quick smash” is where customers will pick a breakable package and get to smash those items into bits and pieces. The other option is the “splatter room,” where customers can throw paint on the walls, their friends and even a canvas to take home afterward.

“We did the regular quick smash room, we had a plastic bin full of small breakable items and we got to pick one large item. We both thought it was really fun,” said Kristen McCann, a recent customer at the Opelika Rage Room.

McCann and her husband went to the rage room for a date night after they received a gift certificate for Christmas and they enjoyed their time on their ‘fun and different’ date night.

“We would definitely go again,” McCann said.

Miller started the rage room in Birmingham, Ala. while doing liquidation work in a warehouse, when he noticed ‘junk’ piled everywhere. After frustrating days of trying to navigate the mess, he came up with the idea.

“In a point of frustration of being buried under your own stuff trying to clear a warehouse, you just think "If only I could just let somebody pay me to break all this stuff. The light bulb just went off and I was like ‘let’s do it,"' Miller said.

After finding success at the Birmingham location, Miller decided to open a second location. Being an Auburn alumna, he decided on the Auburn/Opelika area.

For college students looking for something out of the ordinary to do with their friends, the rage room is a place many students turn to. The sessions are a unique way to have fun while also alleviating stress.

“Some of my friends have talked about it, but we haven’t been yet and really want to go,” said Ava Smith, junior in early childhood education.

Between the appeal of smashing items and splattering paint, they also offer accommodation for large groups, having something fun for everyone. The ability to connect music from customers' own playlists while participating is a way of focusing on customer satisfaction.

There are many different options and upgrades to add to the session. The cosmic rage is where the breakables are pained in neon paint, and black lights are turned on, as well as music-synching party lights. There are also options to add extra breakables and even bring personal items to smash as well.

Each room holds up to six people and sessions are 30 minutes long. Prices vary based on the amount of people and the breakable package chosen. But for a unique experience like the Opelika Rage Room, it should be worth the money and time.
