Flowers have been a classic Valentine’s Day gift for centuries. No one can go wrong when buying their loved one flowers for this special day.

Red, pink and white are the colors traditionally representative this holiday, which is often reflected. As multiple flower stores prepare for their rush hours in Auburn, red roses are often the main flowers displayed in their windows.

Red roses represent deep feelings of love and passion, while white roses represent innocence and humility. Pink roses are often interpreted to represent grace and gentleness.

Virginia’s Flowers in Opelika has many different bouquets, of all colors, for this holiday.

Their website allows anyone to customize their bouquet and have an order ready for pick up at any time. Melissa Weaver, the owner of Virginia’s Flowers, is preparing for this busy time.

“Out of every holiday, Valentine’s is hands down my most popular time of year,” Weaver said.

The flower shops are seeing a rush of customers. People of all ages and relationships are stopping by to pick up bouquets for someone special, from Galentine's Day gifts to romantic gestures.

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love, not just for significant others, but for everyone. It is a day to make a gesture of love in any form — it could even be a platonic relationship that one celebrates on this special holiday.

Valentine's Day isn't just for romantic love; it's also a perfect opportunity to celebrate self-love and recognize one’s own worth.

Auburn Flowers and Gifts, located on Opelika Road, is owned by Zach Habby. The store is blooming with a rainbow of flowers, not just the traditional red and pink roses.

“Both our foot traffic in the store as well as our deliveries [makes Valentine's Day] by far our busiest day,” Habby said.

Weaver and Habby both agreed red roses are the most popular flower they sell during this time. Roses are a popular choice for couples likely because of their romantic symbolism.

Tulips and lilies are also very popular flowers during Valentine’s Day. These flowers are often associated with the freshness and renewal of spring.

At this time, Kroger has their flower section fully stocked. Kroger is an easy place to find flowers and intertwine their grocery run with Valentine’s Day shopping. Amber Lee, the head of the floral department, noticed more customers checking out the flower section the week of Valentine's Day.

Lee agreed that the most popular flower for the holiday by far is red roses.

“The color is probably why we sell the most of red roses,” Lee said.

Some might simply be drawn to the beauty of red roses without necessarily considering their symbolic significance.

There were also many yellow tulips in the floral section at Kroger. Yellow represents friendships and joy. These too could be a gift option for a friend on this holiday.
