One team that has found the most success at Auburn throughout the years is the equestrian team. This group of women is currently ranked number one in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association.
With their season beginning in August, they have poured their time and effort into becoming the best they can be, mastering skills from show jumping to Western riding.
During equestrian meets that take place in Auburn, the team has an advantage, as they are riding on horses they are familiar with. At away meets, teammates are not able to choose what horse they want to compete with. Only four minutes are given to each rider to warm up the horse that is assigned to them. They then must take to the ring.

Caroline Buchanan, riding Rimba, competes in the reigning event against UT Martin on Feb. 8, 2025 at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.
Genevieve Ahlstedt, senior in quantitative economics, focuses on Western riding.
“Part of the challenge is you can’t change [anything] in those four minutes. You just have to adapt in that moment,” Ahlstedt said.
The team's close bond, forged through countless hours together, has transformed the members into a sisterhood. Many of them expressed deep gratitude for choosing Auburn to pursue their riding career.
Holland Barnett, junior in psychology, specializes in the jumping seat.
“I’m very grateful for all of these girls — they’re literally my sisters, and they have my back on everything I do,” Barnett said.
Jill Alexander, sophomore in hospitality management, also focuses on the jumping seat.
“I can definitely say I’m grateful I chose Auburn because of the support system — whether it be academics or out at the barn, there’s so many people we have helping us to make us better,” Alexander said.
The love and support Auburn fans have shown this team is a testament to their hard work and dedication. The girls work not just for themselves, but for their fans too.
“The behind-the-scenes work is truly incredible, and we couldn’t go a day in our lives without any of our coaches,” Ahlstedt said.
The team leans on one another and continues to push each other to be the best they can be. More than just athletes, these women are building a legacy of excellence that demonstrates the power of teamwork and perseverance. Their impact extends beyond the arena, inspiring future generations of equestrians and solidifying Auburn’s reputation as a powerhouse in the sport.
