The Auburn Tigers volleyball squad continue their SEC road trip this weekend with a match in Oxford, Mississippi, against the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday. First serve is set for 2:00 PM CDT. Auburn is coming into this matchup with an 11-2 overall record and an undefeated record of 2-0 in conference play. The Tigers are also on a 5-game winning streak that includes two wins against SEC opponents, Alabama and Mississippi State.
This meeting with Ole Miss will be another important test for Auburn as the Tigers look to prove themselves as a contender and one of the top teams in the SEC. The majority of their victories this season have been 3-0 sweeps, including the wins against their SEC opponents. Auburn’s ability to close out matches quickly and decisively shows that Auburn does not lose its momentum once it gains control. This consistency has been a key to their success so far this year, and it has given the Tigers the confidence that makes them very difficult to beat in close sets.
A big piece of Auburn’s dominance thus far into the season has come from their balanced play and abundance of contributors on the court. They hold an average of 13.1 kills per set compared to opponents’ 12.1, with 563 kills and a .274 hitting percentage, significantly outhitting their opponents, who have collected a hitting percentage of .148. Their assists also align closely with their attacks, averaging 12.16 assists per set. The setting is backed by very solid ball control, where ball-handling errors come at about only one per set. The Tigers’ serving has also been very effective, with 57 aces and a strong serving efficiency. Auburn has also maintained a very disciplined defense with 615 digs and 143.5 blocks. These balanced offensive and defensive numbers, along with a low error count, have kept Auburn competitive and dominant through the early season while showing that the team’s success does not rely on one single player and is rather a collective effort.
As the Tigers prepare to face Ole Miss, Auburn will look to continue its strong play. The 9-4 Rebels have a solid attack with 646 kills in 1,644 attempts, posting a .234 hitting percentage and averaging 12.7 kills per set. Ole Miss also has 90 aces, showing an aggressive presence on the service line. Defensively, Ole Miss has recorded 642 digs and 113 blocks, indicating strong backcourt defense and play at the net. However, Ole Miss has committed 261 errors, which Auburn will look to exploit by putting consistent pressure on the Rebels and strong serve receive.
Looking ahead, a win against Ole Miss would continue Auburn’s strong start against SEC competition and further boost their confidence as they navigate a tough stretch against teams in their conference. It would also help Auburn prove itself as a strong force that is capable of contending for the SEC title while also demonstrating that this early-season dominance can last.
