As the ice of January melts away, February marks a time of celebrating the special connections we have in our lives. Whether it be family, friends or significant others, this month is focused on all sorts of love. To celebrate the new month, I’ve curated a list of entertainment, including a movie, book and album, guaranteed to set the mood for the season.

The theme I’ve decided for this month is “timeless love,” or a love that transcends generations. The theme of love and romance is something I find overdone, so I began to dig for other kinds of romance that tell a deeper story. A timeless love is the kind that is especially hard to break, that lasts in every decade. I feel each piece on this list encapsulates this theme, and I hope it brings you the same enjoyment it gave me.

So pop the popcorn, and grab your bookmarks and earbuds. Here are my movie, book and album recommendations for this February.

Movie of the Month: "Dead Again" (1991)

My rating: 3.5/5

Kenneth Branagh’s movie “Dead Again” is not by any means like a classic romance movie that people watch every Valentine’s Day, but for anyone looking for something different, this movie is definitely worth watching. This movie is certainly about a “timeless” romance but with a twist: It’s a romantic thriller with a fun murder mystery. With a film noir vibe but a campy, entertaining plot, this movie definitely keeps you guessing with its twists.

The movie focuses on a mute woman who cannot remember who she is or where she came from, and a private investigator, Mike, who tries to help her. They seek help from a hypnotist, and she ends up with memories of a couple who were torn apart by murder in the 1940s. They soon find that the two of them have an interesting connection to the old couple, and chaos ensues from there.

With wonderful performances from Emma Thompson, Robin Williams and Kenneth Branagh, this wild and wacky love story is one you’ve never seen before.

Book of the Month: "Our Infinite Fates" by Laura Steven

My rating: 4/5

In this fantastical love story, the lead characters, Evelyn and Arden, are reincarnated over the centuries and are soul-tied to each other for eternity. There’s only one problem: Evelyn is always murdered before she turns eighteen by Arden himself. Throughout the book, her goal is to stay alive, find the one who dooms her in every life and resist falling in love with him.

I loved this book, not only because the leads are stuck in a literal “timeless” love with one another, but also because of the interesting twist on the conventional love story. The story shifts, telling the present-day narrative of Evelyn while also going back to her and Arden’s past lives.

Considering the book tagline “They've loved each other in a thousand lifetimes. They've killed each other in every one,” I can guarantee this read is perfect for romance and fantasy lovers alike.

Album of the Month: "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole

My rating: 4/5

This beautiful album is made up entirely of jazz and swing love songs, transporting listeners back to the year it came out: 1965. Nat King Cole’s smooth voice perfectly fits the romantic vibe of each song. It's undeniably a classic, with songs that still trend today, such as “L-O-V-E,” “The Girl from Ipanema” and “My Kind of Girl.”

The songs themselves have held up over time, making the album “timeless.”

As listeners enjoy sweet jazz, Cole’s velvety vocals and romantic messages, they will know this album is perfect to play in the background for any occasion, especially in February.
