Auburn men’s tennis concluded a strong weekend of competition Sunday, with wins at both the Crimson Tide Fall Challenge in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the CCB Collegiate Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. The Tigers went undefeated across all three hidden dual matches in Tuscaloosa, while sophomore Joey Phillips finished third in his singles flight in Birmingham.

I don’t love economics. In fact, even as a massive advocate for liberal arts education, last year I would have told you I hated it. After AP Econ in high school left my intellectual pride severely wounded, I determined economic theory was redundant and impractical, a paradoxical business study that doesn’t lead to any substantial income. Despite continuing my education in the liberal arts, I vowed that economics would remain far from my field. So the reader can imagine how starting Econ 4300 this semester originally filled me with an overwhelming sense of dread and disgust.

The Auburn Tigers had the opportunity to host the Savannah Banana’s “Banana Ball All-Stars” squad at Plainsman Park. The Tigers fell following a second showdown 4-3 after finishing the first nine innings tied at three. The night was full of many amazing feats and exciting moments throughout the two-hour Saturday night show.

The Auburn Tigers were able to secure their first SEC win of the season against Arkansas this afternoon, despite trailing the Razorbacks 21-10 at halftime. Even more incredible, they mounted the comeback without scoring a single offensive touchdown.

On Oct. 25, the Lee County Historical Society hosted the annual Syrup Sopping Festival at Pioneer Park from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Held for over 50 years, the event features food, live music and pop-ups by small businesses in the area. Among these vendors were local businesses selling products like custom hydrographics and jewelry, while others were there on behalf of organizations.

Auburn gets its first and much-needed SEC win of the season with a 33-24 victory over Arkansas on the road. The game was filled with many questions and confusion, especially right before halftime, as Auburn starting quarterback Jackson Arnold was benched in favor of backup Ashton Daniels.

On Oct. 23, the University Program Council (UPC) hosted its annual event Haunting on the Plains on the Campus Green. The event offered the large turnout of eager Auburn students the opportunity to get into the Halloween spirit with free food and drinks, music, pumpkin painting, a haunted house, a corn maze and a costume contest.

As of Oct. 24, the Studio Theatre and Ham Amphitheatre projects at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center (GPAC) are substantially complete. This means that the real construction work has been finalized, and all that’s left to do is to prepare the spaces for their debut. The GPAC’s production team is currently hard at work finalizing the lighting and audio systems for the two brand-new venues.

Auburn tennis will be heading to the Country Club of Birmingham tomorrow to compete at the CCB Collegiate Invitational. The event begins on October 24th at 12:00 PM and will give the Tigers another opportunity to build on the progress they have made this season.

The 14th annual Oktoberfest will return for the weekend at Ag Heritage Park, with the festival taking place on Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. Established in Auburn in 2008, Oktoberfest has become one of the largest beer festivals in the South. Around 70 of the world’s most renowned breweries and wineries are registered for the event, including Blue Moon, Sweetwater, Goat Island, Stone, Victory, New Belgium and more.

On Oct. 21, 2025, at 10 a.m., the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) Board held a contentious public comment hearing on LGBTQ-related topics in the children’s section. The change to the code would deem any material that “promotes, encourages, or positively depicts transgender procedures, gender ideology, or the concept of more than two biological genders” as "inappropriate" for minors.
