Studying in the spotlight: An Auburn student’s experience with professional cheerleading

On March 27, Aleks Slavich, senior in biomedical sciences, experienced a victory larger than he could ever imagine. Slavich competed on Dallas Drive, a professional cheerleading team, and helped bring home the win with his fellow teammates at the Professional Cheerleading Championship in Nashville, Tennessee. The team's triumph over Miami Metal brought the league their first championship title, but Slavich found himself on the championship-winning team by chance.

Radical acceptance: 'The Drama' review

"The Drama" begins as any rom-com would, amidst the jitters of wedding planning and the recounting of adorable first impressions and embarrassing dates, but director Kristoffer Borgli’s 2026 film, starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, is anything but an ordinary rom-com.

A reflection of our nation: 'The Pitt' season 2 review

A New York Times opinion column from February titled “The Television Show Every American Should Watch” deconstructed HBO’s critically acclaimed poster child, "The Pitt," claiming the show is a direct reflection of the current state of our chaotic country. I see the analogy of the column as rightfully fitting to the first season of "The Pitt," and even more to the second season.

Beware The Jungle: The rise of Auburn basketball culture

Auburn is a University historically defined by its loyalty to their football program, but a shift in momentum is now undeniable. Even in the post football season, the energy on campus refuses to quiet down. Jerseys shape shift accordingly, a sports buzz hangs in the air and lines stretch across The Village for Auburn's winter spectacle. Neville Arena becomes a commune for the devoted, who stay till the end of the game, win or lose. Basketball culture at Auburn University has evolved as both students and community members alike race to cheer on The Tigers.

Survival horror's second wind: 'Resident Evil: requiem' review

On Feb. 27, the Japanese video game company Capcom released its newest and ninth single-player survival horror game under the modern Resident Evil name: “Resident Evil: requiem.” After my initial playthrough of the game, I am happy to announce fans of Resident Evil will be absolutely elated by the quality of the newest installment. With a great balance between combat-focused gameplay and survival horror, it is a complete blast to play.

Monthly picks: A woman-led movie, book and album for March

March is designated as Women’s History Month; It’s a time to celebrate the contributions of women to America’s history, their accomplishments and how they have impacted society. In honor of this celebration of women, I’ve picked a movie, book and album that are created by women and feature empowering stories, but also capture the essence of the upcoming spring season.

AU Singers

AU Singers: The family behind the music

When people think of show choir, they often think of popular media, including the television show "Glee," with its dramatic storytelling, expert song covers and entrancing dance numbers. However, the AU Singers, Auburn University's very own show choir, led by conductor Dale Farmer, brings a whole new level of dedication and love towards art. The group, consisting of over 36 vocalists and 12 instrumentalists, is currently preparing for their Spring Show, a performance that is guaranteed to knock the socks off of anyone who watches.

When Auburn University marketing alumna Danyelle Hillman decided to try out for the Auburn University Cheerleading Team in 1995, she did not initially realize the lasting impact her role would have on the University. 30 years after becoming Auburn’s first African American female cheerleader, Hillman, now an instructional technology specialist for Muscle Shoals City Schools, reflects on how she has carried the spirit of Auburn with her throughout her career in business and education.

In memory of Jack Dutton

It is an honor to recognize a student whose character, dedication and impact have left a lasting impression on Auburn University’s community. Jack Dutton, junior in Auburn’s Professional Flight program, passed away on Dec. 18, 2025, following a tragic plane crash in Statesville, North Carolina. Dutton's passing, together with his father Dennis and others, is deeply felt across the Auburn community.
