More than a swing: The mechanics of golf

Despite its reputation as a hobby for Florida retirees or wealthy businessmen, golf is quite a difficult sport to play competitively. Driving the ball down the range takes strength and power, and putting takes focus and precision. While the swing looks like one fluid motion, there’s so much more that goes into the movement. In a recent interview, Auburn golfer Josiah Gilbert broke down the basic mechanics of a golf swing and how each factor plays into his game.

Gilbert leads Auburn with co-medalist finish at honors course

Junior Josiah Gilbert set the pace for Auburn men’s golf at the Invitational at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee, leading the Tigers to a strong start to their fall season. Gilbert finished 6-under for the week, earning co-medalist honors for the second time in his collegiate career and helping Auburn secure a tie for second place in the team standings on Tuesday afternoon.
