“I’m hoping that week, that off week, we had before the game got canceled will give us preparation, too," Malzahn said. "I’m hoping it will give us a good footing on everything with our plan. They present challenges, no doubt, they are protective of the football and I think that’s been a big factor.”
“[The Mississippi State defense does] a lot of different things, especially different from last year,” Nix said. “They were a little bit simpler last year, and you knew what you could expect. We had a good game plan for them going in last year. This year obviously, it’s a lot different with a new coaching staff.”
Injured senior linebacker K.J. Britt announced on Thursday via Twitter that he will not be returning this season and instead will turn his attention to the 2021 NFL Draft.
Auburn women’s basketball will have to wait to return to play, as COVID-19 issues and contact tracing within the Tigers’ program has postponed their game against Belmont. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening.
Against No. 5 Texas A&M, Auburn’s offense improved upon its Iron Bowl performance, and Bo Nix used his legs to scramble for two scores. However, in the last 15 minutes of game time, the offense disappeared.
The Auburn defense couldn’t do much to stop the Texas A&M offense on Saturday, allowing 509 yards of total offense, including 313 on the ground. “We couldn’t stop the run and we couldn’t get off the field,” Malzahn said.
It was a tough trip to the Lone Star State for Auburn women’s basketball, as Houston handed Auburn its first loss of the season, 71-61.
