Auburn Tiger Women's basketball lost to the Florida Gators 70-56 Thursday night in Gainesville.
Auburn stands at 11-14 overall and 3-9 in the SEC. Florida improves to 16-8 overall and 6-5 in the SEC.
"Florida's defense was really good tonight and took us out of a lot of things offensively," said coach Nell Fortner. "They shot the
three-ball really well, and that hurt us, too. It was just a tough night."
Auburn struggled with maintaining possession throughout the game.
The Tigers turned the ball over 22 times, which equaled 26 points for the Gators.
Then Florida put Auburn in the rear-view mirror with a 19-2 scoring run during a six-minute stretch.
Junior Blancher Alverson led the Tigers with 19 points, including a four-for-four night from the free-throw line.
Florida was eight of 17 from the three-point range, with three of these eight shots converted by senior guard Latina Bartley, who finished with 17 points.
Auburn's next game will be Sunday against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The game will start at 1:30 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN2. The game will benefit breast cancer awareness and Adopt-A-Pet Awareness Day.
"We have some great agencies here in the Auburn-Opelika area that strive to provide safe homes for pets, and I think it is a great thing that we can use one of our games to bring awareness to the issue," said Fortner.
