Auburn holds off Ole Miss in five sets

The Tigers took down the Ole Miss Rebels in five sets on Friday night.

The first set was close until around the 10-point mark, when Auburn went on a short run to pull it out 25-17. When the first set ended it seemed as though Auburn had caught fire and could possibly pull off the sweep in front of the home crowd, but Ole Miss told a different story.

Ole Miss came out firing on all cylinders in the second set but couldn't seem to distance themselves. Around the 10-point mark Ole Miss slowly began to establish a lead. Eventually, the Rebels would go on a dominant run and win the set 25-16.

Auburn outlasted the Rebels in a tough third set, winning 25-21.

Ole Miss claimed the fourth set 25-19. One team was fighting for its life in the game, while the other was desperately trying to put them away.

At one moment, Auburn’s Stephanie Campbell went charging after a ball that seemed to be a lost cause, but was somehow able to save it and eventually earn the Tigers a point. Ole Miss had almost all of the momentum heading into the fifth and final set.

The Tigers started off a bit slow, but as the crowd began file in for the ensuing basketball game, the girls took their opportunity to show everyone what they were made of.

Auburn came alive, and the home-court advantage began to have a role. The ladies were feeding off the energy in the stands and were able to pull out the final set, 15-8.

Sophomore Courtney Crable and junior Breanna Barksdale came up big down the stretch with some key blocks and kills at the times when Auburn needed them the most. Crable finished the night with 14 kills, a team high, while Barksdale tied for first on the team, accounting for five of the teams 12 blocks.

The Tigers hold their last home game of the 2015 season Sunday afternoon against the Arkansas Razorbacks at 1:30 p.m.
