Cause of morning Lowder fire determined

The cause of an early morning fire in Lowder Hall Monday has been determined, according to the University Office of Communications and Marketing.

Interim Assistant Vice President for Communications and Marketing Mike Clardy said the Alabama Fire Marshal's office determined the likely cause.

"After an extensive investigation, the Alabama Fire Marshal's office has determined the likely cause of the fire in Auburn University's Lowder Hall this morning was electrical and originated from a light and ballast on the first floor," Clardy said in an email to the press.

Clean up began early in the afternoon. No timetable was provided for possible completion of the clean up process.

Clardy said all classes located in Lowder will be relocated until further notice. Students should check their emails for temporary class locations.

The affected area of Lowder and its rear parking lot along War Eagle Way will be closed until further notice. War Eagle Way was temporary closed this morning but was reopened around 7:30 a.m.
