A spirit that is not afraid

Auburn Confident on the Road to Tampa

The Auburn Tigers (7-5) continued their bowl preparations today with a practice in full pads that ran a little over two hours.

"We had a good practice today," said head coach Gene Chizik. "We had good preparation and we were kind of rusty, but overall it was a very active practice."

The Tigers are preparing for a Northwestern team (8-4) that won its last four regular season games, including wins over both Iowa and Wisconsin.

Coach Chizik realizes the challenge his team is up against, giving praise to the Northwestern defense and senior quarterback Mike Kafka.

"(Kafka) runs their offense very well and has the ability to make plays," Chizik said.

Senior defensive lineman Antonio Coleman said he is excited for the bowl game and said the team has come a long way from where they were last year.

"It's going to be a great game," Colemain said. "The coaches have us doing a lot of cardiovascular exercises to prepare for their fast paced offense, and we're watching a lot of film."

The Outback Bowl will be televised by ESPN on Jan. 1, 2010. Kick-off will be 10 a.m. C.D.T from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Fla.
