Auburn’s men’s tennis team was ranked 28th in the Feb. 24 release of the NCAA Men’s Division I rankings.
The previously No. 35 Tigers have faced one Top 25 opponent in the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes. They lost 4-0, but the loss was at a tournament in Columbus, Ohio, and at the time, the Buckeyes were fifth in the nation.
The Tigers’ only other loss was to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Feb. 20, in Montgomery. The No. 32 Red Raiders beat the Tigers, but the match went 4-3, and Texas Tech had to win four out of six singles matches.
The Tigers, at 10-2, now head into the hardest part of their season. On Thursday, Feb. 26, the No. 34 South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Tigers in Auburn.
The five SEC schools currently ranked ahead of Auburn are No. 7 Georgia, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 16 Vanderbilt and No. 17 Florida.
