The No. 7 Auburn Tigers faced the No. 3 Baylor Bears Saturday in the last home match up of the season.
The Tigers beat the Bears 13-7 and won all four events.
The Tigers won the Equitation over Fences event 4-1, in spite of MOP honors going to Baylor. Senior Elizabeth Benson captured her tenth straight point to stay perfect for the season.
In addition to Benson’s Fences success, she garnered MOP honors for her work in the Equitation on the Flat event. The tigers captured the Flats event 3-2.
After her events, Benson told me that she was pleased with the home crowd support and she can really see the team start to mesh together.
“It was really good to be home and be in front of the crowd,” Benson said. “The girls are finally starting to come together and be able to be one team. Not just having hunt seat get a win and western have a loss, but really have both of us in sync .”
On the Western side, Auburn took a win in the Horsemanship event. Junior Griffin Knight took MOP honors with a posted score of 76.
Auburn also won the Reining event and junior Hailey Munger was named MOP with her 71.5 score.
Auburn head coach Greg Williams said after the game that this was more the kind of performance he had been looking for.
“This was a big win, and this was a lot more the kind of style and the kind of attitude that we've been looking for,” Williams said. “I could see it. They’re riding for each other.”
The Tigers' next match up is scheduled for March 13 at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
After New Mexico State, the Tigers only have one more event before SEC Championships begin on March 27.
