Thompson goes the distance to even series vs LSU

Keegan Thompson threw his second consecutive complete game Saturday night, April 11, allowing only one run on six hits to help the Auburn Tigers even the series against the No. 1 LSU Tigers.

In taking down LSU, Auburn (21-14, 5-9) claimed its first win against a No. 1-ranked opponent since the Tigers topped Vanderbilt on May 13, 2007.

Anfernee Grier led the Auburn offense once again, this time registering his first career three-RBI game, on three hits.

Grier’s double, his 17th of the season — which leads the SEC — gave Auburn the lead in the third inning. Auburn tacked on another run in the fifth, when Grier tripled for the second time this season.

The Tigers built a comfortable lead for Thompson to work with in the sixth, scoring runs on a two-RBI triple from Cody Nulph and an RBI single from Jackson Burgreen — his first RBI of the season.

With the win, Thompson improved to 7-2, becoming the first pitcher to toss back-to-back complete games since Colter Bean accomplished the feat in March of 2000.

Auburn and LSU will play for the series win Sunday afternoon, April 12, in the rubber match.
