Baseball completes Fall World Series

Auburn baseball's fall ball "World Series" concluded Wednesday with the Blue Team taking the series 5-2. Fall practice consisted of the Orange and Blue teams, drafted by "coaches" Jackson Burgreen and Melvin Gray.

The Blue Team took a head start by opening the series Monday with a 4-0 shutout against Orange, following with another 5-0 shutout Tuesday to take a 2-0 series lead. Returners Blake Logan and Daniel Robert had big hits in both games that helped secure victories for the Blue Team, while Ben Braymer, Izaac Yarbrough and Casey Mize kept Orange scoreless from the mound.

The Orange Team returned Friday to gain its first victory of the series, coming back to win the game 8-6 after an early 6-0 lead by the Blue Team. Newcomer Colton Campbell picked up the win in two innings of relief for the Orange.

An offensive showcase from Robert gave the Blue Team the series victory in game four going 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Braymer settled into the mound once again to battle back from giving up three to retiring the next nine.

Orange took the final game in the series with a two-run homer by freshman Alan Smith. Andrew Mitchell picked up the win, allowing two base runners and no runs in three innings of work.

The Tigers are under the instruction of Greg Norton while Sunny Golloway's replacement is being found. Fall ball concluded on a high note with the promise of revamped pitching and a solid veteran return to lead the new crop of freshmen.

The Tigers will return to action in the spring when they face Sacramento State on Feb. 19 at Plainsman Park.
