Men's tennis reaches 4-1 following tiebreaker win over Troy

The Auburn men's tennis team found a 6-1 victory over No. 68 Troy in a tiebreaker Friday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

"We knew how good Troy was and we knew it was going to be tough," said Auburn head coach Eric Shore. "We're going to have to be more even and cut down on our sloppiness, but I'm very pleased to get this win."

The No.1 duo of Marko Krickovic and Edward Nguyen claimed the doubles point for the Tigers in a 7-6 win after battling through a 10-8 tiebreaker. Conner Huertas del Pino and Brandon Laubser captured a 6-3 victory in the midst of two tiebreakers happening down court, with previously undefeated Max Hinnisdaels and Olle Thestrup falling to the Trojans.

"We knew it was going to be a tough match, and I thought we competed hard, especially winning the tiebreaker in doubles," Shore said. "That definitely gave us some momentum going into singles and we were able to get it done when we needed to."

In singles, Krickovic remained undefeated following a 6-2, 6-2 win over Vaclav Slezak. Thestrup captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hassan Ndayishimiya. Huertas del Pino clinched the singles for Auburn, going 6-3, 6-2 over Andy Lau on court three.

Now 4-1 on the season, the Tigers will visit No. 44 Georgia Tech Friday and follow with a visit to Clemson on Sunday.
