Women's tennis fights, conquers No. 14 Texas A&M

Not even a week after upsetting No. 12 Oklahoma State, the Auburn women's tennis team continued to thrill fans after defeating No. 14 Texas A&M at home to open SEC play.

The No. 29 Tigers (13-2) were able to take down the Aggies in 4-2 fashion following a trying week, according to coach Lauren Spencer.

"This week was a little stressful trying to figure out our doubles," Spencer said. "We decided we needed to break everyone up."

After a 6-3 win from Pleun Burgmans and Alizee Michaud, freshman duo Caroline Turner and Alannah Griffin clinched the doubles point for Auburn with a 6-3 win over Domenica Gonzalez and Ines Dehezafrom. The doubles breakup was exactly what Spencer was looking for. "It brought a fresh attitude to our team," she noted.

No. 32 Dikosavljevic upped her record to 9-2 on the dual-match season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over No. 53 Saska Gavrilovska. Griffin gave Auburn a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eva Paalma in her first appearance in SEC play.

"I was very proud of Alannah Griffin in her first SEC match," Spencer said. "I have been waiting to see her greatness and I think it finally showed up tonight."

Michaud clinched the match for Auburn in three sets, defeating Rutuja Bhosale 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

The Tigers return to play Saturday, March 5 with a 1 p.m. start against No. 9 LSU at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn.

"We know that we can be a top 25 team, but we also know that it won't be given to us," Spencer said. "We are going to have to fight for it."
