SEC Softball Player of the Year, Scholar-Athlete of the Year and newly crowned espnW Player of the Year Kasey Cooper is racking up the awards this season. ESPN announced Wednesday that the junior infielder earned the honor for her work on and off the field.
The Mechanical Engineering major holds a 4.0 GPA as she enters the NCAA tournament second in the nation in RBI, fifth in slugging percentage, sixth in on-base percentage and tied for ninth in home runs. No player ranks in the top 10 in each category.
She compiled a .922 slugging percentage this season and through the SEC Tournament, with a .431 average, 66 hits, 19 home runs and 73 RBI.
Cooper and the Tigers move on to face Jacksonville State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Jane B. Moore Field on Friday at 6 p.m. CST.
