The ITA National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, Chris Hooshyar, has been named Associate Head Coach for Auburn women’s tennis, head coach Lauren Spencer announced Thursday.

“Words really can't describe how much Chris means to this program and personally to me and my family,” said Spencer. “In my mind I always envisioned him becoming an associate head coach for this program, but didn't know how soon he would be ready to do that. Over the past three years he has played a vital role in helping build a nationally recognized program that can compete for SEC and National Championships. You simply cannot find a more hard working and passionate person."

Hooshyar was a volunteer assistant coach at Southern Methodist University before coming to Auburn in 2013. He played at SMU from 2006-2010 during the same time Spencer was head coach.

In his third season at Auburn, the assistant from Manchester, England, has helped lead the Tigers to a 24-8 (9-4 SEC) finish this season. Auburn set program records for single season wins and single season SEC wins with his aide and the Tigers also hosted a NCAA Regional for the first time in program history.

After taking over the team's fitness this season, Hooshyar worked to build one of the most physically fit teams in the SEC. Finishing 25-28 in matches that reached the third set last season, the Tigers went 38-20 in the same scenario this season.
