Best places to study outside around campus

With the temperature picking up and the sun peeking through the clouds, spending time outside is becoming more pleasant and possible on the Plains.

If you don’t have time to hang out and soak up the sun without leaving your books inside, there are some places on campus, that are often overlooked, where you can study while enjoying the sun.

The tables outside of the library are a great study spot to discover this spring. These tables are secluded enough by the hill, but centrally located to provide a quiet yet convenient study spot. With some tables under the trees and others out in the sun, there are plenty of options to find a comfortable spot. With its prime location, if you change your mind on the outdoors or the sun starts to set, you are right outside the library or a short walk from the student center.

Situated right next to Langdon Hall by Samford, there is a cluster of tables that serve as another outdoor option and the perfect midday study spot. Convenient to downtown, Foy and the library, this spot is perfect for snacking and studying. Overlooked by those headed to class, but a gem in itself, head over to Langdon next time it’s sunny and 75 on the Plains.

To avoid some of the crowds in the center of campus, but still take in the fresh air and get some work done, Village Dining has the perfect spot. The tables outside of Village Dining Hall are close to food and covered with shade. If you’re studying with a group or need space to spread out, there are multiple tables to choose from.

Last, but not least, if you are buckling down for hours of studying and need to be close to caffeine, the tables outside the Starbucks in Lowder are the best option. Although it is crowded right before and after class periods, if you get there at the right time, you are set for the rest of the day.

Try out some of these spots for a change of scenery studying and to take advantage of the weather as it veers away from snow and toward sunshine.
