Auburn University’s Campus Recreational Center, commonly known as "The Rec," is now offering free group fitness classes to students, forever. Spring 2026 group fitness classes, which are available for registration on the Auburn Rec’s RWC Connect website, will be included with student tuition and are currently open for registration.

Auburn University Recreation and Wellness group fitness classes have been offered at The Rec since the RWC’s opening in 2013. Group classes are a signature staple of The Rec and offer Auburn’s student body, as well as non-students, an outlet to support fitness habits, find relief from class-induced stress and build a sense of community.

According to The Rec’s official website, group fitness classes “provide a high-energy workout experience that is perfect for all skill levels.” 24 different classes are offered, including sunrise yoga, tigerpump, Pilates, Zumba and more. Sessions are available at all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, with most being offered daily.

Classes are primarily hosted inside the various classrooms within The Rec, with different facilities available based on the class. For students unsure or unaware of the class schedule for the week, the most up to date information on group fitness can be found on the Auburn Campus Recreation app.

As of January 2026, group fitness classes at The Rec will be included in the student recreation fee, at no extra cost, indefinitely. Students who register through RWC or the Auburn Campus Recreation app can attend with admission only requiring their Tiger ID. Students can register for unlimited classes as long as they are currently enrolled in classes at Auburn. Instructions for how to sign up are available on The Rec’s website, and classes can also be scheduled by visiting the help desk in The Rec lobby.

"Recreation and Wellness launched the 'Group Fitness Forever Free' campaign this semester to reduce participation barriers and create thriving communities in group fitness classes," said Susie Weigel, assistant director of group fitness at The Rec. "With the removal of the $50 group fitness pass, we extend a warm welcome to all members. We provide encouragement, fun and friendship as participants navigate their health and wellness goals."

Group fitness classes are available throughout the week and are flexible to accommodate student academic class times. Classes offered serve to further Auburn’s mission to maintain student wellness and quality of life by providing students with a unique sense of routine and belonging alongside their fitness goals.

Students looking for less intensive workout sessions can also attend Mindful Mondays, a meditation-based session with counseling services included. These classes are offered at 4 p.m. every Monday at the Rec, and are also free to students.

"I love that there is no longer a fee for participants because they get to try new classes without the stress of having to pay extra," said Emily Otto, a group fitness instructor at the Rec. "I always enjoy seeing new faces in my classes; the more, the merrier."

Students and non-students can also enjoy the group fitness facilities available at The Rec by joining the Recreation and Wellness team as a group fitness instructor. Any member interested in becoming a group fitness instructor, including students, faculty and staff, can apply to lead group fitness classes, without prior experience required. Opportunities are available year round, and serve as a way for students and non-students to lead.

Individual Auburn Recreation and Wellness professionals, as well as Rec group fitness classroom spaces, are available upon individual reservation. Students can visit the request a professional form to learn more.

Non-students, such as faculty members and staff, are still able to attend fitness classes, but are required to pay a fee. Auburn Rec fitness classes are available to anyone, even those not affiliated with Auburn University.

In addition to these classes, The Rec also offers state-of-the-art equipment to those seeking self-paced individual workouts.
