Auburn University hosts International Women's Day celebration

The event allowed women to speak freely about the issues they have faced and gave room to discuss solutions to obstacles women face. Auburn also highlighted the International Cultural Center's "Year of Indonesia" showcase. 

Alabama Supreme Court holds oral argument at Gogue Performing Arts Center

On March 14, 2024, the Supreme Court of Alabama held oral arguments on Auburn University’s campus, the second time the court has done so. During the session, justices heard arguments about a medical malpractice case. The arguments, which were open to students and the community, were held at the Gogue Performing Arts Center.

UPC hosts War Eagle Karaoke Night

Auburn's University Program Council debuted their War Eagle Karaoke Night on March 12 in the Melton Student Center ballroom, where students had the chance to jam out to their favorite songs on stage. 

Construction begins on new dorms along Haley Concourse

Construction began this week on a new residence hall along Haley Concourse, set to house 371 students and to be completed for the fall 2026 semester. University architect and assistant vice president of planning, design and construction Simon Yendle oversees construction projects across campus. The university has conducted multiple site studies according to Yendle, who described the current located as preferred by him and the Board of Trustees.

University holds annual Robert Hughes Mount Jr. poetry competition

Auburn University's Department of English is hosting the annual Robert Hughes Mount, Jr. poetry contest sponsored by the Academy of American Poets.The prize offered is $100, a membership in the Academy of American Poets and a copy of the judge’s collection of poems, this year Nathan Spoon. The winner will be announced April 26 at the Department of English's awards ceremony. 

Aggravated assault reported on campus

From Selma to Auburn: Bloody Sunday's youngest marcher shares story with community

Nearly 60 years ago, Lynda Blackmon Lowery, became the youngest person to have marched during Bloody Sunday, part of the history-changing protest following years of segregation in the state. Last week, she spoke to the Auburn Family at the Auburn United Methodist Church with the College of Liberal Arts Inclusive Excellence and the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities sponsoring the lecture.

New student organization at Auburn University pioneers support network for Black veterinary students

Few veterinarians in the country are Black, and even fewer attend Auburn University. In 2023, students in the College of Veterinary Medicine and pre-veterinary medicine undergraduate students formed the Student Association of Black Veterinarians with the goal of empowering and connecting those interested in the field.

AUDM holds 13th annual dance event

On Saturday, Feb. 17, Auburn University Dance Marathon held its 13th annual dance party to raise support and awareness for a network of children's hospital across the country. This year, the organization raised $356,036.24, a significant increase from 2023.

No classes held in Miller Hall for remainder of semester

Areas of Miller Hall are now open after the building was previously closed on Jan. 12 due to findings of mold in the building, however, classes scheduled to meet in Miller will be moved to alternate classrooms and will meet in those classrooms for the remainder of the spring semester. After initial remediation efforts by the university, Risk Management and Safety will continue to test the air in the building for eight weeks and then periodically following that date.
