Spring graduation means many things to students closing one chapter in their lives to start another. For Stacy Miller and her 7-year-old son, Isaac, graduation meant something different.
The University sent out the following Public Safety Advisory following the announcement of University lab technician Stephen Howard being charged with selling GHB, a date rape drug: The US Attorney’s Office today announced the arrest of an Auburn lab technician who is accused of selling large quantities of the date rape drug GHB.
The Auburn Plainsman will produce a digital-only issue every Thursday this summer and will print two tabloid issues for June and July. The weekly issues can be viewed at ThePlainsman.com where "Virtual Print Edition" is displayed on the right side of the home page. The two tabloid issues will be in the racks Thursday, June 11, and July 9. The Camp War Eagle tabloid will be in the racks until June 11.
Jordan-Hare Stadium will soon be home to the largest video board ever displayed for college football fans and for Auburn students. The video board’s construction began Feb.
The laboratory was made possible by a collaborative effort from its sponsors, various Auburn students, RFID lab employees from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business, and the College of Human Sciences.
A more detailed policy concerning military credit was proposed at the University senate meeting Monday, May 19. The policy was proposed to be compliant with state laws, according to Xing Fang, chair of academic standards, who proposed the policies. The policy limits the number of hours people can receive for military service is 10 semester hours. Up to four hours of physical education credit can be awarded, two hours for basic training and two hours for advanced individual training. Up to six hours of military science elective or general elective hours can be awarded. According to the policy changes, Auburn does not award credit the American Council of Education (ACE) classifies as low level, vocational or technical.
Auburn and Tuskegee Universities are partnering to research heir property with the help of a grant from the U.S.
The Auburn Board of Trustees, the governing body of the University, may be receiving two more minority seats. HB 551, which is currently pending its third reading in the Alabama Legislature states the new board members should be residents of the United States who enhance the diversity of the board, according to the Alabama Legislature’s website. The Auburn Board of Trustees currently consists of only one minority member out of 14 total members.
Summer is a time for construction at the University. According to Martha Koontz, communications and marketing specialist with Facilities Administration, there are two main projects this summer: the Samford Park redevelopment and the re-roofing of Samford Hall.
Auburn University is broadcasting the graduation ceremonies live on UStream.
Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics is shaking things up and flipping some of their classrooms, according to Nicholas Giordano, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.
Graduates of the College of Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Education were awarded their degrees in the first of four graduation ceremonies May 9-10. According to the Auburn University website, 3,840 degrees will be awarded over the next two days. Friends and families of the graduates packed the Auburn Arena at 10 a.m.
There will be a new login page for Canvas starting Monday, May 11, according to a press release from OIT.
Tim McCann, senior vice president of First Transit, presented Willie Smith, Tiger Transit driver, with First Transit’s Focus on Safety award Wednesday, May 6. First Transit, Tiger Transit provider, conducted the corporation-wide safety campaign. Smith was given the choice between a 2015 Ford Focus and $20,000. Smith said he will choose the money. “I had no idea at all this was going to happen,” Smith said.
Auburn University held a memorial service for students who passed away this year. The students honored at the memorial service were Maura Bruck, Justin Bryant, Leslie Burnett, Ryan Frazier, Hope Johnson, Adam Miller, Jakell Mitchell, Thomas Osborne, Sarah Roberts and Meghan Wilson. According to Katherine Hettinger, coordinator of case management and student advocacy, the school gives a memorial service once per year to honor all students who have passed away.
As Katharine Cooper Cater Hall nears its 100th anniversary, plans for its renovations are underway. The Auburn University Board of Trustees approved renovations for Cater Hall at its April 17 meeting.
After the spring graduates of Auburn University cross the stage with their diplomas in hand, many will begin their job search.
The “It’s On Us” Sexual Assault Prevention resolution was passed at the SGA’s Monday, April 20, meeting. The resolution will join Auburn’s name with 200 other universities across the United States, six of which are in the SEC, in an effort to educate about and stop sexual assault. Trey Fields, senator for the College of Liberal Arts, promoted the bill and discussed the goals of the campaign as well as the bill. “This bill aims to instill a shared responsibility to prevent sexual assault and to provide resources for individuals to recognize and pre-empt the pattern of sexual violence,” Fields said. The White House and The Center for American Progress launched the campaign in September of 2014. According to The White House Blog, “studies estimate that one in five women is sexually assaulted while in college.
Auburn University received the largest donation it has ever had in its 160-year history. John and Rosemary Brown, both graduates of the University, announced their $57 million donation April 17.
