Auburn is looking to erase its three-game losing streak to the Bayou Bengals, who are coming off a stellar performance in a win against South Carolina. Here are some players to watch and keys to victory for both teams ahead of Saturday's matchup.
On Friday, No. 15 Auburn fell to No. 7 Arkansas, 2-1 on the road for its first loss of the season.
“[This week’s game] is very important,” said junior offensive lineman Brodarious Hamm. “It can set the momentum. We just want to get on that road and be able to show everybody we can compete.”
J.J. Pegues has already made an impression on the Auburn fanbase with his unique skill set this season. Chris Cutcliffe, Pegues' high school coach, believes Pegues is just scratching the surface of what he can do for the Tigers.
Auburn took on South Carolina Thursday for the second match in a two-match series. The Tigers lost the match 3-1 but set a program record for the most blocks in four-sets with 17.
“I feel like the secondary is finally coming together with no injuries and whatever, so I feel like we’re going to do great as long as we communicate and play with the right technique.”
Auburn volleyball had its first road match of the 2020 season and fell short in a three-set sweep to South Carolina Wednesday. The Tigers will get another opportunity against South Carolina on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 3:30 p.m. CST.
“For our team, we’re disappointed with the result,” said head coach Karen Hoppa. “We need to learn from this game. We’ve got a young group. We’re going to get better and make some adjustments and look to improve from this game before we play again.”
The connection between Bo Nix and Seth Williams has always been there, and against Ole Miss, the tandem’s effectiveness was in full effect during the 35-28 victory.
"It was really good. K.J.'s one of our team leaders, and just to have him back is a blessing for us," Pappoe said. "In the locker room, in the hotel, on the way here, he's just that energizer bunny for us, just keeping us pumped."

For the second-straight night, Auburn volleyball fell in a three-set sweep to Florida on Thursday. However, Brent Crouch did notice improvements from the team. "It was a really nice step forward on the defensive side,” Crouch said.
Jamal Johnson is one of Auburn’s three upperclassmen on this year’s roster, and as a veteran, his role and leadership will have to expand in the Tigers’ young backcourt.
“He’s going to bounce back,” Brahms said. “He’s so positive. I don’t think he lets the noise get to him, honestly, so I see him bouncing back.”
“Obviously, when you lose a game, you have to bounce back,” Malzahn said. “So yeah, it’s a very important game.”
As Auburn prepares for a matchup with Ole Miss, its running back room -- led by Tank Bigsby -- continues to get healthier and closer to full strength.

“We have 12 guys on scholarship, 10 of them are underclassmen, freshmen and sophomores,” Pearl said. “This is the youngest team I’ve had since I’ve been a Division I basketball coach.”
