Auburn baseball (30-17, 10-12) dropped its series opener against South Carolina 10-1 Friday, May 1, at Carolina Stadium. A grand slam from South Carolina’s Kyle Martin in the eighth inning capped things off for the Gamecocks.
In the Tiger’s first battle with LSU on the road, the team pulled out a victory by a single digit, 2-1. After a slow first half-inning, the Tigers were able to bring Emily Carosone home after two consecutive walks and a grounder from Morgan Estell.
After a long and grueling road to recovery, Auburn pitcher Cole Lipscomb was finally in the spotlight after he recorded his first career complete game against Ole Miss on Friday, April 17. The Prattville native’s outstanding performance included a career-high 10 strikeouts in Auburn’s 3-1 victory over the Rebels, and earned the him the honor of being named SEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 20. “It’s a huge honor,” Lipscomb said.
Auburn golfers Ben Schlottman and Matt Gilchrest were named All-SEC first-team, and Michael Johnson was named All-SEC second-team on Thursday, April 30. Schlottman also won SEC Freshman of the Year, as well as being named Freshman All-SEC. Schlottman is the first freshman in Auburn history to make the All-SEC first-team, and it is the first time Auburn placed two golfers on the All-SEC first-team in the same season since 2002. At 69.67, Schlottman’s stroke average currently ranks as the lowest single season stroke average in program history, and it is good for third-best in the SEC and first among freshmen. The freshman had four top-five finishes this year, including runner-up finishes at the SEC Championship and the Schenkel Invitational. Gilchrest’s 70.41 stroke average is currently the second-lowest in school history and eighth-best in the SEC. Johnson won the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner, and finished with co-medalist honors at the Gary Koch Invitational.
Shortstop and sometimes third base player Haley Fagan has a family tree planted in the game of softball, as her older sister, Sami, currently plays for the Missouri Tigers and her eldest sister, Kasey, plays for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Sitting just 30 minutes to the east of Auburn, Phenix City is known for being a blip on the road to Columbus.

Per a report from ESPN's Jeff Goodman. Thompson, a sophomore averaged 2.7 points per game and 1.9 rebounds. The sophomore forward began at Auburn as a walk-on but was awarded a scholarship under former coach Tony Barbee. Thompson's best performance on the Plains came in the first round of this year's SEC tournament when he had 16 points and three rebounds against Mississippi State.

Moore field, as the juggernaut that is Auburn softball’s offense kept their foot on the gas , as they have all season, and continued to pour on the runs. Sunday, the Tigers finished the sweep of the Razorbacks by way of a 10-2 win, mercy ruling the hogs in every game of the series. Head coach Clint Myers was understandably pleased with his team’s performance in their final home series of 2015. “I thought it was a great weekend,” Myers said.
“It’s the first sweep we’ve had since I’ve been here and hopefully we will have a couple more the next couple weeks,” Robert said. “Honestly, we needed a sweep. We needed to pick a game up and I’m glad we did.”
“You look at all she’s doing now, but Jade can do better,” Myers said. “She’s bought in and really working hard. There’s nothing but a great future for her.”
Don’t look now, but the Auburn Tigers are on a roll. After falling behind in the conference standings, the Tigers have now picked up consecutive SEC series wins against Ole Miss, and now rival Georgia. Auburn’s (28-16, 9-11) latest, a series-clinching 5-1 win on Friday night, was keyed by a strong pitching performance by Rocky McCord and a timely bases-clearing triple from Sam Gillikin. With the bases loaded and the score knotted at one in the fourth inning, Gillikin launched a rocket into the right field wall, and as he strolled into third, the crowd of 3,609 at Plainsman Park erupted. “That was a lot of weight off my shoulders,” Gillikin said.
Auburn softball matched their last-season win total Friday, by way of a 9-1 mercy rule win over SEC west foe Arkansas. Auburn (42-8) started slow, but saw runs come in bunches in the bottom of the sixth, and had stellar pitching all night from Marcy Harper, who went all six innings, allowing only four hits and notching five strikeouts. “Marcy threw phenomenal,” said head coach Clint Myers.
The Tigers (27-16) took on Georgia (21-21) Thursday in the first game of three to be played this weekend.
Auburn volleyball has tipped off its competition segment of its spring in preparation for the upcoming 2015 season. “Right now, its about getting people on the other side of the net and getting the competitive juices flowing, but at the same time, working on the things we do everyday in practice,” said coach Rick Nold.
Auburn center Trayvon Reed has been sentenced to 15 days in jail for a second-degree misdemeanor assault charge, which he pled guilty to in December, after being arrested in July following an altercation with a police office in College Park, Maryland. In a statement released Wednesday, head coach Bruce Pearl said that “Trayvon understands that he must be held accountable for his actions.” Pearl went on to say that he is proud of how Reed is learning from mistakes and taking advantage of the opportunity he’s been given at Auburn.
Now that Auburn gymnastics’ run to the Super Six for only the second time in program history is finished, the Tigers ended the season with 52 broken or tied records. Auburn scored the highest team total in program history (197.750) vs.
Five hitless innings were in the book before Auburn (26-16, 8-11 SEC) pushed two runs across in the sixth inning, and Damon Haecker sealed the win with a home run in the ninth to defeat Florida A&M 3-2 Tuesday, April 21, at Plainsman Park. “We didn't have a lot of energy in the dugout, and I guess that is coming off the emotions of last weekend,” said head coach Sunny Golloway.
One day after spring football practice concluded—and the day after Jeremy Johnson was named starting quarterback—Auburn’s offensive coordinator, Rhett Lashlee, discussed his impressions of the spring with members of the media. “Big picture, I thought we made good progress,” Lashlee said.
