Shootin' Hoops with Lebo

Auburn Men's Basketball head coach Jeff Lebo, in his fifth year as head coach, has helped record the second most wins in the team's history, by going 24-12 last season.The team made it to the third round of the NIT Tournament and lost to Baylor.More impressively, he led the team to win eight out of the last nine SEC regular season games.Eight of the Tigers' 11 wins in the conference were by double digits.He came to a team facing NCAA probation and many players left Auburn.It was a slow and steady struggle for Lebo and his Tigers, but the hard work is paying off.His father, Dave Lebo, is an assistant coach for the program.He said the biggest struggle for Jeff was taking small steps and doing things the right way."He had to make some decisions to get the right kind of players in here," Dave said.

Auburn Volleyball Falls Short to Florida

Auburn Women's Volleyball (14-12, 6-9 SEC) fell to the No. 9 Florida Gators (20-3, 14-2 SEC) Sunday in three sets, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14, in Gainesville.The big players of the day were sophomore outside hitter Kelly Fidero and freshman outside hitter Sarah Bullock.Fidero recorded nine kills and two service aces during the match while Bullock had eight kills and eight digs."I think one of the team's biggest strengths against Florida was our serving," Bullock said.

Dr. Ray Groover Named 2009 Walter Gilbert Award Recipient at Homecoming

Dr. Ray Groover received the 2009 Walter Gilbert Award at the Auburn Homecoming football game Saturday."It is extremely honorable," Ray said.Ray, who graduated from Auburn in 1961, still holds the records for the most free throws made (17) and attempted (21) in a basketball game."Dr. Ray Groover is a complete Auburn man," said Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs in a release.

Women's Basketball Wins 73-50 over Georgia College and State University on Sunday

Auburn Women's basketball came away with an easy win Sunday, beating the Georgia College and State University Bobcats 73-50 in an exhibition game.Four Tigers scored in double digits, while sophomore guard Parrisha Simmons took a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.Auburn scored first and the game remained relatively close until the Tigers scored 17 unanswered points and held GCSU without a goal for almost nine minutes.The first half ended with the Tigers up 40-18.Auburn was slow to start after halftime, only scoring one point in five and a half minutes.The team bounced back and finished strong, but was only 9-of-28 at the free-throw line.Head coach Nell Fortner said that statistic was a big concern."We are getting high percentage shots taken away from us and they are sending us to the line and we are not knocking them down and that's not good," Fortner said.

Women's soccer defeats Ole Miss for first time since 2004

Auburn defeated Ole Miss 2-1 in round one of the SEC soccer championship in Orange Beach Wednesday.Auburn went into the tournament 6-5-0 in regular season conference play and ranked third in the SEC West and sixth overall."We did a great job of finding a way to win," head coach Karen Hoppa said in a press release. "Ole Miss is a great team and they played a great game, our girls just did a fantastic job of getting better from last weekend. We scored goals when we needed to and we did a great job of ending the game; the last 10 to 15 minutes, not giving them a good look and getting out of here with a 2-1 win."

Auburn Men's Tennis Sweeps South Carolina Invitational

Auburn University Men's Tennis team swept away its competition and returned to The Plains with numerous victories after playing in the South Carolina Invitational last weekend.The tournament was a three-day event with eight singles flights, a tournament where players play against each other in a range of matches and four doubles flights."Overall, I thought we played well in certain spots, I'm not disappointed," said Eric Shore, head coach of the men's tennis team.

Auburn Baseball Holds Fall Classic

The gray team swept the series by defeating the white team in all three games of Auburn baseball's annual Fall World Series at Plainsman Park Thursday, Friday and Sunday.Since the beginning of fall semester, Auburn has been dividing into two teams for weekly intrasquad scrimmages."This fall we have made some really good progress as a team; just getting to know everyone since we have a whole new recruiting class this season," said shortstop Casey McElroy.

Auburn Whips Ole Miss, Prepares for Furman

Auburn Tigers football (6-3) will celebrate its 83rd Homecoming game by taking on the Furman Paladins (4-4) this Saturday in its last regular season non-conference game.The Tigers are coming off a 33-20 win over the Ole Miss Rebels, moving them to third in the West of the Southeastern Conference.Senior running back Ben Tate ran for 144 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown in last Saturday's game.

Basketball Season is Ready to Tip Off

Auburn Women's Basketball team opens play Sunday with an exhibition game against Georgia College and State University.The Tigers ended the 2008-2009 regular season with a 29-3 record along with the SEC Championship before going to the second round of the playoffs, finishing the season with a 30-4 record.Auburn has already had to change its starting line up due to early injuries.At the end of July, sophomore guard Morgan Jennings, who was a projected point guard for this year, tore her ACL and is undergoing rehabilitation, and junior guard Reneisha Hobbs tore her ACL Oct.

Auburn Cross Country Places Top 10 at SEC Championships

Auburn Cross Country team traveled to Oxford, Miss., for the SEC Championships Saturday.The men's team earned third place and the women's team placed seventh.The championships involved familiar competition, including Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky and Mississippi State.On the men's side, seniors Felix Kiboiywo and Jean-Pierre Weerts placed third and fourth, respectively, while junior Ben Cheruiyot came in fifth.Head coach Mark Carroll praised his team's performance."Overall, it went very well," Carroll said.

Auburn Volleyball Loses LSU Rematch

Auburn Volleyball team (14-10, 6-7 SEC) was unable to defeat No. 20 LSU (18-5, 12-2 SEC) Sunday.Auburn lost 3-0, dropping all three matches, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20."We came out uninspired right away and that stuck with us throughout the entire match," said head coach Wade Benson in a statement after the game.

Auburn Falls to LSU, 31-10

Auburn Tigers football lost its third straight game this season to No. 9 Louisiana State University Tigers, 31-10.LSU controlled the game from the beginning, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter."LSU played a great game," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "From the beginning to the end, they executed better than we did, and I'd say they beat us in about every phase of the football game."Auburn could not contain LSU's sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson.Jefferson had the best game of his career, completing 21 passes on 31 attempts for 242 yards and two touchdowns.He also added a rushing touchdown and 26 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
