Men's tennis eliminated at Georgia Tech Invitational

The Auburn tennis team finished off the Georgia Tech Invitational at the Bill More Tennis Center in Atlanta October 3-4.Head coach Eric Shore knew this was going to be a test for the team, and the pair of tournaments was going to show him how well his underclassmen could handle the speed of the college game."This was an exciting weekend," said Assistant Coach Gabor Zoltan, "It was a great way to see where we are in the fall before heading into spring competition."

Youth unemployment rate increases in August

This past August saw yet another drop in the national unemployment rate. However, one group that was hit especially hard was the teenage population.According to the Labor Department almost 1.7 million people ages 16 to 19 are without a job. This computes to almost 21 percent of teenagers.This is more than 6 percent higher than the teen unemployment rate last year."This is a tough time for everyone economically," said Sarah Haley, the press secretary for Jeff Sessions. "The employment rate is the highest it's been in 25 years."

Auburn Soccer Prepares to Take on Razorbacks

This Friday night the Auburn Tigers soccer team will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks for its first home SEC game.Auburn has outscored opponents 11-5 and lost just once this year while playing in the familiar confines of the Auburn Soccer Complex."We're excited to be home again after being on the road for two weeks," said senior forward Becca Howell.Senior forward Caitlin King shared Howell's enthusiasm for returning home to face Arkansas and Louisiana State University."It's huge just like any sport you have to win your home games and win some road games," said head coach Karen Hoppa.

Lyricist Lounge showcases poetic talents

Last Thursday night offered a chance for Auburn students to showcase their lyrical creativity.The event, co-hosted by Auburn's NAACP and BJPSA chapters, lasted just more than an hour and a half and featured the creative stylings of more than 10 singers, rappers, dancers, poets and performers.

Millard Fuller's Dream of Housing Continues

Lanett needs a superhero.It has an unemployment rate double the national average, almost 21 percent of the city's population lives below the poverty line and the per capita income is under $16,000.And since 2000, Lanett's job growth is negative, meaning jobs have decreased by 15 percent, and the school system spends thousands less per child than the national average.As a result, some of its long-time residents migrated elsewhere.But Friday afternoon offered a glimmer of hope for this struggling city.
