The spirit point system has been under review by the SGA and will be replaced by the organizational seating competition starting Sept. 14.
Over a period of 10 weeks, the SGA has consulted with a committee of students to determine where the spirit point system went wrong and how to change it for the better.
Sterett Seckman, executive vice president of initiatives, said that the changes being made are intended, in part, to make the competition more accessible to other organizations.
"The changes we made are going to wipe out the ability of organizations to get points monetarily," Seckman said. "That's a huge boon to smaller organizations that don't have as much cash flow."
Now that the competition is becoming more accessible, the SGA will hold general info sessions Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. and Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in room 2218 of the Student Center to provide more information on getting involved.
"The meeting will be completely accessible to all organizations," said SGA President Owen Parrish. "We are preparing to have as many as will come and are looking forward to having a big crowd."
Davis Rhodes, a member of the Wesley Foundation, said one element of the competition he would like to have addressed is the amount of seating available at football games for the winners.
"At the football games we sit at a certain place," Rhodes said. "We kind of want a bunch of room because we try to be open to freshmen as an organization, so we try to make sure there's room for them to sit with us."
Parrish said the final details of the change will be made by Sunday.
"It's in the process of being completely finalized," Parrish said. "It's being checked and rechecked, so we can roll it all out at one time and have it ready to go. "
