A third of Auburn students never graduate, prompting the development of an early alert grading system.
The idea was presented to the Faculty Senate Tuesday, Nov. 6 by Constance Relihan, associate provost for undergraduate studies.
The plan will make sure all students in core curriculum classes receive their midterm grades well before the drop-out period ends.
This will allow freshmen to gauge their progress in class and take appropriate measures.
"Sometimes students dig a hole their first semester, and it's difficult to get out," Relihan said.
Relihan said she hopes the system will increase the retention rate of Auburn students, and, if all goes well, the plan will be officially approved by January.
