All around the world people have celebrated International Education Week and in honor of the festivities, Auburn Global hosted “Pin Where You’ve Been” on the Haley Concourse.
Auburn Global is a program designed for first-year international students to provide various types of support including academic support, social support, and acculturalization in order to help make the transition to Auburn as smooth as possible.
Charles Campbell, Auburn Global director of student services, described the event and how it promotes togetherness between international students, domestic students, and faculty alike.
“The more people you have from diverse environments just enhances the atmosphere, enhances the environment,” Campbell said.
To participate in this event, students and faculty took a pin and placed it on where they were from, where they were born, or somewhere they had visited. Campbell said this created a visual representation of just how far the Auburn Family expands.
Campbell said this event was different from many others on the Concourse by it being interactive.
“When you come on the concourse, it’s usually someone giving you something like a flyer, but this is a way for people to be interactive on the Concourse. I think it just promotes engagement, it promotes conversation,” Campbell said. “Typically, people are trying to get where they’re going to, but this forces you to stop,”.
Throughout the day, the map filled with different colored pins, scattered over six of the seven continents. Campbell said this represents how Auburn has been spreading education all over the world, a value Auburn Global holds highly.
