On Friday, No. 18 Auburn was taken down by No. 10 Alabama by a score of 196.925-195.575. Despite the loss, the Tigers improved from the previous road meets and produced their highest score on the road this season.
“Everybody is going to have to keep their head on straight,” Graba said. “It’s a tough environment, it's a tough arena and obviously it’s a tough match-up. Anywhere in the SEC is a tough match-up, but it is the Iron Bowl of gymnastics. So I’m trying to get a lot of young people to understand what that means.”
“I was really happy with the team’s fight and focus tonight,” said head coach Jeff Graba. “They stayed determined throughout the whole meet. This was a tough meet because we asked a lot of some young people."
“[Kentucky] is a younger team this year, but they are really talented,” said head coach Jeff Graba. “They look like they came out of the gate at the same rate as us. They made some mistakes, but they’ve definitely got a high scoring potential.”
“I just felt super grateful to be out there,” Gobourne said. “We didn’t even know if we were going to have a season or what it would look like. I was just really grateful to be out there doing the sport that we love.”
Auburn gymnastics joins the rest of the SEC in the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association preseason poll, coming in at No. 14. All eight SEC teams are ranked in the Top 20, with two SEC teams ranked in the Top 5.
